Root2Shoot — Sustainable Café and Film & TV Catering

Our Story & Team

Root2Shoot grew from one belief: food can be a force for good — for the people who grow it, the people who cook it, and the people it brings together.

Our Mission Statement

Root2Shoot is more than a catering company. It's a community with a kitchen at its heart.

We're a collective of chefs, growers, foragers, music lovers, nature enthusiasts and lifelong learners, brought together by a shared belief that great food can make a positive difference.

We don't claim to have all the answers. We're still learning, still growing and still finding better ways to tread a little lighter on the planet every day. Whether it's reducing waste, supporting local producers, growing our own ingredients or discovering more sustainable ways to cook, we're always asking ourselves, "Can we do this better?"

If we can serve incredible food, bring people together, make someone smile and leave the world just a little better than we found it, we'd call that a pretty good day's work.

We genuinely give a damn… and we think you can taste the difference.

Meet the Team

Our people, our craft

Food has always been our common language, but we each bring something different to the table.

Kevin of the Root2Shoot team — Root2Shoot sustainable café and film & TV catering, Stockport

Kevin

Founder & Head Chef

A proud Stockport lad, avid birdwatcher and DJ who has played across the UK, Europe and Asia — Kevin also runs Club Biscuit, his regular night championing emerging DJ talent in Stockport. When health challenges pushed him to rethink his relationship with food around 15 years ago, the committed meat eater went vegetarian and discovered a whole new way of cooking. Practical, direct and quietly funny, he believes actions speak louder than words.

Kaytie of the Root2Shoot team — Root2Shoot sustainable café and film & TV catering, Stockport

Kaytie

Chef · Forager · Co-founder

Kaytie grew up where the North Devon countryside meets the sea, with seasonal food and wild ingredients always part of life. Vegetarian since fourteen, she's spent years exploring plant-forward cooking — happiest when foraging, growing Lion's Mane mushrooms, or finding new ways food can nourish both people and the planet. The team's proud tree hugger, and happy to own the title.

Harvey

The Next Generation

Harvey, Kevin's nephew, is the next generation of Root2Shoot. Currently studying hospitality, he's curious, enthusiastic and always hungry to learn. He stands out through his willingness to get stuck in, ask questions and put new ideas into practice. Like his uncle, he's passionate about DJing and regularly plays at Club Biscuit. Harvey is excited to be part of Root2Shoot, and we're just as excited to watch him grow into the chef and person he's becoming.

Every Angle of Food

Between us, we understand food from every angle. Kevin's journey into vegetarian cooking came through necessity, Kaytie's through lifelong choice and Harvey proudly flies the flag for the carnivores. Whether it's allergies, medical requirements, religious beliefs or lifestyle choices, we know everybody's relationship with food is different — and we believe everyone deserves exceptional food without compromise.

The Journey So Far

How we took root

The Seed

A market stall & a big idea

Root2Shoot began as Stock2Pot — a weekend stall named for our Stockport roots, selling soups made from produce local farms couldn't sell. The queue told us we were onto something.

First Call Sheet

Our first film set

A friend asked us to work on a film set — and we loved it! The next job they got, the crew asked for us by name.

Zero-Waste Milestone

Closing the loop

We made waste a design problem: compost partnerships, food rescue and using every ingredient properly became our operating system.

Today

The cafe opens its doors

The café became our home base — open to the public by day, and the permanent kitchen that feeds productions by night.

Our Values

Three pillars, one plate

01

People

We hire locally, train people properly and treat them fairly. A business is only as healthy as the people inside it.

02

Planet

Plant-forward menus, rescued produce, compostable everything, and suppliers we can name.

03

Plates

None of it matters if the food isn't brilliant. Flavour first — sustainability is the standard, not the compromise.
